Your Guide for Sunday Fun Days
Last week, I researched all-day Sunday Happy Hours for a friend who was taking a major test to become a dental hygienist. She wanted to celebrate after her test with a Sunday Fun Day, so I started to look up places in the city that offered a cheap, all-day drinking option. I thought I’d share the information with my fellow lushes:
Man Ray: The gay “video” bar on Capitol Hill has $1.50 beers and a free buffet for it’s Sunday patrons.
Lava Lounge: One of my favorite bars in Seattle, it’s located on 2nd Avenue, next to The Viceroy. The bar is so kitschy and eclectic, Amanda and I used to play I Spy while sitting at the bar. You could stare at shit for hours and still never see the same thing twice. Other games available—shuffleboard and Miss Pacman. (Patio.)
Contour: Yeah, so it’s a dance club. But, the Pioneer Square bar (next to Fado’s) has a super, super cheap Happy Hour from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sundays. They offer a $1.95 food menu, $2 Dos Equis and Tecate, and $3.50 well drinks. The menu is cheap, and extensive—chicken wings, hot wings, a cheeseburger, hummus and chicken skewers are just a few of the selections.
The Luau: Another close and personal favorite of mine. What is it with me and Tiki bars? Located in Tangletown, the bar’s Happy Hour is from 12 to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Click here for a menu. (Patio.)
Solo: A new bar on lower Queen Anne, I’ve yet to venture through its front doors. I’ve heard good things, but it hasn’t seemed to pick-up popularity, which is a plus for some of you. Happy Hour includes $2 beers and $2.50 well drinks.
Amber: Probably my least favorite on the list. The only time I’ve been there was for the opening night, and it was super pretentious, and the bar layout wasn’t patron friendly. I haven’t been back since, but the all-day Happy Hour might convince me once the weather gets nice. The $5 food menu looks fantastic. Click here to view. (Patio.)
Currently Feeling: Unproductive as all hell.

Hello, RSS Feeds! I’m in Love with You
Ok. This is almost embarrassing for me to admit. I’m sure most of you are way ahead of me on this. But for months now, I’ve wondered about and ignored those little orange icons on each Web site I go to. Or all talk about RSS feeds. It seemed uber nerdy, or something I just wasn’t interested in exploring. However, more and more I’ve noticed the sites I enjoy advertising their RSS feeds. So, I decided to look into it today. What are these little orange icons? Am I totally at the back of the popularity line with this?
Before I explain what and how—because I know there’s at least a few of you who are just in the dark about this as I am—let me tell you that they are WAY cool, and I wish I would have had the patience before today to figure them out. Please take my advice and sign up right away.
Basically, a RSS feed is a streamlined way to keep track of the Web sites you visit daily. My Favorite Links list has grown exponentially since starting in the corporate world, and for someone is who obsessed with organization, RSS feeds and readers are really genius.
RSS readers (news readers, etc.) are free, and there are quite a number of them to choose from. A RSS reader is basically one Web page that organizes all the site feeds you’ve subscribed to. And you can personalize your page, changing the color, adding the weather forecast or your horoscope, and organize tabs for your feeds such as Sports, Entertainment, Blogs, Fashion, etc. It basically organizes the entire Internet—personalized to your liking—and eliminates the need for tons and tons of saved links. Each RSS feed automatically updates, so you can see if a blog has been updated without checking it 14 times a day, or you can read the latest news headlines as they’re posted on SeattleTimes.com or TheStranger.com.
Really, I encourage those of you who still are clueless about this to check it out. It takes some time to subscribe to all the pages you view on a daily or weekly basis, but it’s totally worth it. And even better, you can add my blog site to your feeds! Here’s how to jump on the RSS bandwagon:
- 1. Choose a RSS reader. From what I’ve seen on the Web sites I read regularly, some of the most popular ones are Bloglines, Pageflakes, Technorati, Netvibes, MyGoogle, MyMSN, MyYahoo, MyAOL, etc. I don’t think it really matters, I just chose according to the look and feel of the page that I enjoyed the most.
- 2. Once you choose your reader, start subscribing to the feeds of all the Web sites you read daily. A lot of them have the “one-click” option, and will have icons listed on the side that look like these:
If you don’t see an icon that corresponds to your reader, you can just copy and paste a URL into the “Add a Feed” option on your RSS Reader site.
- 3. Personalize your page by organizing the tabs, collapsing modules, or making the headline lists longer or shorter.
- 4. Delete that long list of Favorites and visit your RSS Reader site every day to see all your favorite Web sites in one location!
Really, for an Internet-minded person, does it get any better than this? Dare I ask…

All Things Peeps
I know, I know—I’ve already blogged once about these damn things. But seriously, does it get any better than Peeps?! In honor of Easter weekend, and the passing of Peeps on the grocery store shelves, here’s All Things Peeps:
Fun Peep Facts:
1. The amount of Peeps chicks and bunnies eaten at Easter could more than circle Earth’s circumference. That’s a lot of marshmallow!
2. The machines at the Just Born Factory can add 3800 Peeps eyes per minute
3. There are over 200 unofficial Peeps web sites!
4. In the early 1950’s, it took 27 HOURS to make one Peeps chick. Today it takes six minutes!
5. Each Peeps chick has 32 calories and 0 grams of fat.
Of those polled:
59% preferred the chick Peep to the bunny Peep and “fresh from the package” was the preferred way to eat Peeps instead of “aged to perfection.”The male person most resembling Peeps either in physique, colorful attire, or sweet nature/personality is:
Will Ferrell won with 22.1% of the votes
Followed by Johnny Depp, Jamie Foxx, and then Justin Timberlake.“What male public person or celebrity is most in need of Peeps?”
President Bush won for the second time in a row with 25.7% of the vote
#2 – Donald Trump
And our #3 winner – Simon Cowell“What female public person or celebrity is most in need of Peeps?”
Britney Spears won with more than 40% of the votes!
Hillary Clinton was a distant second
And Paula Abdul rounded out the top 3 females
And, here are a few of the entries from The Seattle Times’ Peeps Contest:
“Our Wedding Cake Topper” (from someone’s real wedding cake)
And my personal favorite, “Peep Borat”
Hope everyone had a great Easter!

Thank You God for Making Me Useless

This cartoon sums up how I’ve felt this week.
Monday and Tuesday, I was sick with the HIV or the Clap, or whatever makes you feel like you’re hot, cold, hacking up a lung, have needles in your esophagus, etc.
I had a full day of work yesterday, and came in today to discover that we’re encouraged to leave today at 3 p.m. and have tomorrow off in honor of Good Friday and Easter.
God is great. God is good.
Our God is an awesome God.
